A 45-year-old driver from Waregem was seriously injured on Sunday evening after his car crashed into a tree along the road in Deerlijk.
The 45-year-old driver was driving on Nijverheidslaan on Sunday evening around 8 p.m. At the T-junction with Breestraat he did not stop, but simply drove straight ahead. The car eventually crashed into a tree on the other side of the road at high speed.
Emergency services rushed to the scene and had to free the man from his vehicle. That was done very carefully. At the request of the medical services, the fire brigade cut open the roof of the car to free the Waregem resident. He was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Due to the accident, the Breestraat near Nijverheidslaan in the direction of Vichtesteenweg was completely closed to traffic for a while.
