Former soccer world champion Hope Solo (USA) has apparently once again gotten into trouble with the law.
After media reports that the ex-national goalkeeper was arrested for drinking and driving and endangering her children, Solo published a statement from her lawyer on Twitter.
The two-time Olympic champion is said to have been arrested on Thursday in a parking lot in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Court documents say a bystander observed Solo’s two-year-old twins sitting in the back seat of the car, while the 40-year-old sat asleep at the wheel for over an hour with the engine running, according to media reports.
Solo could not comment on the situation on legal advice, “but her children are her life, everyone should know that,” said her lawyer Rich Nichols. Solo was released “immediately” and is now with her family, the “story” is more understandable than the allegations suggested.
It’s not Solo’s first encounter with the police. Eight years ago, the 2015 world champion was arrested after allegedly assaulting her half-sister and 17-year-old nephew at a family gathering. The case was later dismissed, with Solo saying she acted in self-defense.
