The Public Prosecution Service has demanded 80 hours of community service and a conditional driving ban with a probationary period of two years against a 36-year-old man from Stadskanaal. He would have driven into a 28-year-old man from Buinen on March 9, 2019 after a party.
The Public Prosecution Service is demanding eighty hours of community service against the man from Buinen and another person present from Wedde because they allegedly assaulted the 36-year-old Stadskanaalster and destroyed his car.
It seemed to be such a pleasant evening for the 36-year-old suspect who had to answer for himself in court on Tuesday. He had only just moved to Stadskanaal when he and his wife were invited to a garden party on the Koninginnelaan.
It was a big party. The drink flowed freely, the cocaine disappeared like snow in the sun and to increase the festivities a stripper undressed. “I got into a little bit of words with my wife about that stripper,” says the suspect. “I wanted to go home with my wife and talk it out there. But they wouldn’t let my wife go.”
It ended in a scuffle in which the suspect was attacked by a group of fifteen to twenty partygoers. “A drunken and exhausted crowd,” said his lawyer. He fled to his car, which was parked in the street. “They smashed the windows,” says the suspect. “They ran over the car, I just wanted to run. Then I pressed the start button.”
He says he only drove a few meters. Witnesses say he drove off, turned around and drove back. The 28-year-old man from Buinen was hit by the car. “I don’t remember that,” the suspect claims. “I had a psychosis. As a ten-year-old boy I was once abused by an adult man.”
The man who was hit – “he had a bruised leg”, according to the Public Prosecution Service – and another partygoer also had a lot to explain to the multiple room. The two are suspected of having participated in the assault of the Stadskanaalster and are accused of damaging his car. The resident of Buinen says he did not hit, but pushed. He denies assaulting the car. “I just knocked on the window.”
The suspect from Wedde denies that he was involved in the mass brawl. “I just tried to keep everyone apart. Other than that I can’t remember exactly, I have all kinds of things on my mind. I also had a heart attack.”
The judge inquires between nose and lips whether the heart attack has also wiped away a part of his memory and then determines that witnesses still have memories of the fight. They state that the Weddenaar and the suspect from Buinen have not left themselves unaffected during the fight and the destruction of the car. The suspect from Buinen says that the wild parties are now behind him. “I occasionally visit with coffee and a biscuit.”
