Dries Roelvink reacts extremely uncomfortably when asked about the persistent apparently drunken performances of colleague Tino Martin. “Entire concerts go wrong!”
Before Tino Martin confessed in his ‘documentary’ on Videoland that he occasionally drank too much, Dries Roelvink was the first to – as a kind of slip of the tongue – about coming out. “He said to me, ‘I wasn’t drunk. The two times before, yes, but really not now,” he said about a private conversation with his colleague.
Mr. Roelvink
Dries’ statements in December last year caused such a commotion that he is now quite vigilant when asked about Tino. The singer has apparently been drunk on stage again, so according to Telegraaf reporter Jeroen Holtrop, it doesn’t stop.
Jeroen: “Tino Martin received quite negative news because he was drunk on stage for the umpteenth time. Mr. Roelvink’s reaction?”
‘Difficult to judge’
Dries reacts cautiously. “It’s difficult to judge him, because I count him among my five best friends, so it’s very difficult to say anything negative about him. I think that what is going on with him at the moment… It seems like there is some kind of smear campaign being waged against him, that if he sings even one word wrong or slips up…
Jeroen: “It’s often not just one word, is it, Dries. There are entire concerts that go wrong.”
‘That is not true’
Dries defends his buddy. “No, that is not true. They are fragments and there are a lot of people standing around with phone calls and they film exactly those ten seconds that are not okay and I feel sorry for him.”
Jeroen: “Does he have an alcohol problem?”
Dries thinks about that for two (!) seconds. Very uncomfortable. “Well, then it seems like he drank too much, but of course that has never been proven.”
Ziggo Dome
Dries: “You watch a video of him and sometimes you hear the wrong word or he made a mistake recently, right, like: ‘Yes, Ziggo Dome, here we go!’ Yes, that was in Ahoy. I had that once too. Then I stood at a student association in Delft and said: ‘Gouda, here we go.’”
Jeroen: “Yes, but mixing up Ziggo Dome and Ahoy is the next thing in life, Dries.”
Dries: “That happened.”
Three bottles of wine
Jeroen thinks that Dries is now making it more beautiful than it really is. “That’s three bottles of wine, I think.”
Dries: “I keep saying: I love that man, a fantastic singer.”
Jeroen: “And he doesn’t have an alcohol problem?”
Dries: “He doesn’t have an alcohol problem.”
