Dries Roelvink agrees with the criticism that down programs such as Gordon’s are no longer possible in 2023. He calls for a television exit. “It’s been nice now.”
Gordon is extremely disturbed that several opinion makers are calling for his program Down the Road and all other TV entertainment around people with Down to be taken off the tube. They argue that it paints a very distorted picture of the seriousness of Down syndrome and that this has harmful effects.
Dries is done with it
Gordon is furious about this, but even one of his own customers is now turning against him, namely Dries Roelvink. The folk singer likes to visit Gordon’s coffee shop Blushing. “It’s just around the corner from me. Gordon likes us to come there”, he said a while ago.
It could just be that Gordon thinks very differently from now on, because Dries now joins the camp of critics. He thinks that Down TV is no longer possible, he says in the Story. “No. It’s been nice now. Although Johnny de Mol’s program was very nice and sincere.”
Imca and Marga
The Story has spoken to two more celebrities who can no longer find this kind of television, namely Imca Marina and Marga Scheide. The former says: “We have already had that. It’s time for something different.”
And Luv celebrity Marga: “Including them in society seems more important to me than using them as ‘entertainment’.”
Just in top 25
The season finale of Down the Road managed to attract 457 thousand viewers (8 percent market share) on SBS 6 yesterday. With that, Gordon just managed to achieve a spot in the viewing figure top 25. The major prime-time winners in that list are NPO 1’s De Slimste Mens (2.4 million), SBS 6’s Today Inside (991 thousand) and RTL 4’s Married At First Sight (929 thousand).
How does Tina Nijkamp interpret Gordon’s latest score? She says on her analysis channel: “We probably won’t see this on TV again in the coming years. Not only was there criticism; the numbers were linearly mediocre, postponed it was viewed well, but in total not enough for a third season I suspect.”
