She has been hosting “The Drew Barrymore Show” since 2020 – and wants to continue now, despite the strike.
Despite ongoing strikes by screenwriters in the USA, Drew Barrymore wants to continue with her talk show “The Drew Barrymore Show”, for which she has been talking to stars about personal matters since 2020. The actress insists that she will not discuss any films or shows currently under strike by the Writer’s Guild of America (WAG). In a statement via Instagram, Barrymore said: “I stand by my decision.”
According to WAG spokespersons, the writers behind “The Drew Barrymore Show” are also on strike. Strikes have also been announced for Monday and Tuesday (September 11th and 12th) in front of the CBS studios in New York, where the program is filmed. According to The Hollywood Reporter — which also announced the strike — the first episode of Barrymore’s show is scheduled to debut on September 18th.
The members of the WAG have been on strike since May for fairer remuneration and regulations on the use of artificial intelligence in the creative sector. In June, the actors of the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) expressed solidarity with the authors. A large part of the production was therefore brought to a standstill. It is the largest strike of its kind since the 1960s.
