– Now the new trend is that clothes and accessories are no longer as gendered as before. For example, pearls, which were long seen as ladylike jewelry, have now become popular among young men.

To what extent are more casual everyday clothes, such as sneakers and jeans, also allowed in party situations these days?
– This depends on the party and the dress code. If the dress code is stated in the invitation to be a dark suit, it is better to leave the sneakers at home. Saukkola advises that they are really great for yard party sledding competitions.
– At cultural events, neat and formal dress is a good choice. Sneakers in the opera hardly attract negative attention, but severely ripped jeans can catch the eye.
REMEMBER
Mirva Saukkola’s checklist:
1. Follow the dress code mentioned in the invitation.
2. If in doubt, dress slightly over rather than under.
3. However, trust your own style. If you are a colorful person, don’t choose colors that are foreign to you, such as dark or beige. Of course, the same also works the other way around.
4. Think about functionality. For example, evening bags are small so that you don’t accidentally bump other people in a crowd with your bag that is too big.
5. Also consider comfort. For example, high heels can be beautiful, but if you have to throw them in the corner at the end of the night and dance in your socks, they are not the right choice for the evening. The same goes for garden parties. It’s not particularly elegant to sink into the lawn.
