Drenthe week: King Winter enters Drenthe and is acquitted in trunk murder

Drenthe looks back on an icy cold week. The province was captivated by skating for a few days, but more happened.

It turned out on Monday that there is optimism again in the Printing Museum in Meppel about the future. This was told on KopperMonday, when the traditional Kopperprent was presented again.

A day later winter arrived. A marathon on natural ice is not yet possible in Drenthe, but skating is already taking place, including in Nieuw-Buinen. More ice rinks opened on Wednesday. That provided a lot of skating fun in Drenthe. It shave happened not only at the ice skating clubs in the villages, but also in nature. For example, a forest ranger ventured on a tour of the Elpermeer.

On Thursday the so-called twentieth medal in Emmer-Compascuum was central. That is a payment that dates back to the time of peat extraction in Drenthe. In the village, almost 300 plots are owned by the Kröner family. There are leasehold obligations on those plots because of the twentieth penny.

Hans O. from Emmen was also acquitted on appeal on Friday of the murder of Ralf Meinema from Klazienaveen. Meinema’s body was found on March 31, 2017 in the trunk of his Mercedes, which was half hanging in the Stieltjeskanaal. The Klazienavener was killed by extreme violence. With the acquittal of Hans O., that remarkable murder case comes to an end.
