Drenthe Then podcast: the two photographers of Camp Westerbork

“I had been looking for Breslauer before and I talked to Dirk Mulder (former director of the Memorial Center) about it. There wasn’t much more, besides the famous Westerbork film of course, which Breslauer made on behalf of camp commander Gemmeker . But in the archive there was still a kind of portfolio folder, with photos he had made for Gemmeker. Of course also commissioned. I was completely moved by what I saw. Nature photos from the area, beautiful landscape things from horse and carriage to flowers and eggs that were lying somewhere. I happened to work at Astron, near the former camp site. I was already walking around there when I still knew nothing about the camp. For me it was a recognition. I wanted to know more about that man.”
