Compared to the average Dutch person, Drenthe more often cycle or go for a walk, but exercise less. This is evident from the Sportmonitor Drenthe that will be presented on Wednesday during the sports gala in the Atlas Theater in Emmen.
In Drenthe, 48.4 percent met the exercise guideline – how much exercise is necessary for good health, from young to old – in 2016, while that has increased to 49.1 percent in 2020.
Nationally, there is a slight decrease: from 51.7 percent in 2016 to 50.4 percent in 2020.
Tynaarlo is actually doing more sports; Emmen the least
Drents exercise more often than the average Dutch person, but score lower on the number of people who exercise every week.
In 2020, 44.5 percent of people will participate in sports in Drenthe at least once a week and in the Netherlands that percentage is 50.8 percent.
A positive outlier is the municipality of Tynaarlo, where 56 percent of the people exercise once a week, which is considerably more than the Dutch average. Emmen is behind with 36.4 percent.
The Sportmonitor Drenthe is carried out by Trendbureau Drenthe, in coordination with SportDrenthe and in collaboration with the province.
