Drenthe gets a memorial forest for veterans

Drenthe will receive a memorial forest for Drenthe veterans. The province of Drenthe wishes to emphasize that the veterans have a special place in our province and that it is important to thank them for their commitment to our peace and security.

The reason for the memorial forest is the motion ‘Drentse veterans’ by the Provincial Council, which calls for an investigation into whether a token of appreciation can be given to all veterans of Drenthe.

In response to this motion, the King’s Commissioner spoke to the chairman of the Drenthe Veterans Foundation. That’s where this idea came from. A working group will be set up with the Drenthe Landscape, Defence, Drenthe veterans and the province to further develop the idea and location.

Tomorrow is Drenthe Veterans Day. Flowers are laid at the memorial to the veterans of Drenthe in Assen and a minute of silence is observed. There are also a number of speeches.
