Drenthe blows off the New Year: ‘It’s a pity about the rain’

Drenthe has blown out the New Year’s Eve quite a bit today. In several places there was carbide shooting. This is also the case with the sand drift in Rolde. The fact that it rained didn’t spoil the fun. The organization had set up a tent for the public and free burgers and fries were available.

“It does indeed fall into the water a bit with this rain. But the atmosphere is good, that’s the most important thing. There are just a few fewer people out and about than usual, which is a pity,” says Luukjan Kruit of De Zwoare Klasse , the organizer.

It was another full edition; last year the event was adjusted due to corona. “Last year we did shoot, but then no audience was allowed. We now have 60 milk cans and six large cannons. Last year that was half.”

Several dozen people watched the event from the tent. Close your ears, of course. “It’s a pity about the rain. As a result, fewer people come now. But the atmosphere is always good. It really is an event of the village. Entrepreneurs also participate,” says a middle-aged spectator.
