According to Statistics Netherlands, the number of permits says something about the number of homes that will be built in the short term. To solve the housing shortage, Minister Hugo de Jonge wants 100,000 new homes to be built in the Netherlands every year.
The CBS does report that the permits for housing transformations, for example converting offices into homes, are not included in the figures.
