Drenthe BBB foreman Schuinder: ‘Very curious what will be locked’

The Drenthe BoerBurgerBeweging leader Gert-Jan Schuinder sees opportunities after the fall of the cabinet to take a different course in the Netherlands. And he also has a role in mind for his own party with national leader Caroline van der Plas.

“Tomorrow the sun will just rise again, so the world will not suddenly look very different,” Schuinder responds to the fall of Rutte IV. “But I can imagine that the major files are now on hold.” He refers, among other things, to the much-discussed nitrogen targets. “In any case, that deadline will no longer be 2030, but 2035. That will give you peace of mind.”

“It is also quite possible that the Drenthe Rural Area Program will be critically examined,” Schuinder continues. That is the future plan for the province when it comes to climate, nature, water and the future of agriculture. “Can you continue that with a demissionary cabinet or do you have to wait for a new cabinet? Because who knows, there will be a cabinet with a completely different color,” says Schuinder.

“I’m very curious what will be closed now. Because a caretaker cabinet basically only fits the store. Plans that are in the pipeline and that have money attached to them will also go on hold at the moment,” thinks the BBB foreman.

If it is up to Schuinder, there will be a different course in politics in The Hague after Rutte IV. “Hopefully new elections will lead to a course that does justice to what is going on in society. As a country, I also wish us a different course.”

And as far as Schuinder is concerned, that course will be partly shaped by BBB. “You notice that things are going well in the provinces. We are constructive, sit in the middle and let other parties make their points as well. You can see that it is quite possible to work together with BBB. As far as I am concerned, that could also be done very well in Den Hedge.”

Schuinder is confident that BBB will soon be able to draw up a list of candidates for national elections. “That has been talked about for a long time. When I look at how easily deputies have been found or a list has been made for the Senate elections, I’m not worried.”
