Drenching wet Thursday expected: chance of (wet) snow in the north and northeast

Winter is still not over. It will be a soaking wet Thursday and the north and northeast may even experience (wet) snow. Weeronline reports this.

An active area of precipitation is moving across the country, bringing soft air, but the colder air is not giving up easily everywhere. It starts to rain first in Zeeland in the morning and during the day this area of precipitation moves further north. In the center and south it is initially very cold and it rains at temperatures of 2 to 5 degrees.

“Cold air is still present in the north and northeast. (Wet) snow may fall here for some time at temperatures around freezing point. A thin snow cover of several centimeters may occur, especially in Drenthe, Groningen and Friesland,” Weeronline predicts.

Soft air is gaining ground

A little further south, mainly soaking snow falls that does not stay down. Ultimately, the soft air gains further ground. In the far south it is already more than 10 degrees on Thursday evening. Temperatures will also be well above zero in the north on the night leading up to Friday.

Yet the soft air will gain more ground. On Friday, the highest temperatures can be found in the southern half of the country. “Here it will be 11 to 14 degrees. In Brabant and Limburg it can even reach 15 degrees locally, which is very mild for the time of year,” the meteorologists at Weeronline know. “Normally it is now about 6 degrees during the day.”

Carnival

The many revelers hoping for a dry Carnival this weekend are partly getting their wish. Saturday will be slightly changeable with an occasional chance of some rain, but also quite a few dry moments. “It is again very mild with maximum temperatures that ultimately reach around 10 degrees in the north and about 11 to 14 degrees in the regions where Carnival is celebrated. When the sun breaks through for a moment, it is wonderful weather to celebrate outside,” Weeronline reassures the partygoers.
