A tailor-made start for FC Bayern! The U19s of the German record champions opened their Youth League adventure on Wednesday with a 2-0 win over Manchester United’s youth team. The Munich team is still not leading their group.
Thanks to goals from Robert Ramsak (40th) and Michael Scott (80th), FC Bayern’s youth team prevailed against Manchester United’s U19s in front of their home crowd.
Overall, Bayern showed a mature performance and mostly had the game firmly under control. It wasn’t until stoppage time that the guests from Manchester came into their own, but FCB keeper Max Schmitt was also able to defuse the best opportunities.
“Of course we’re happy with how it went and that we got the win we deserved. The only thing I can accuse my team of is that we maybe didn’t score enough goals. The boys implemented things today, what we set out to do and we’re happy about the victory,” said head coach Michael Hartmann after the success.
FC Bayern is in second place in Group A
It was not necessarily to be expected that the Munich team would win the game so clearly: In the A-Junior Bundesliga South/Southwest, the talents of the German industry leader have often shown themselves to be vulnerable this season, especially in defense.
They only won three of five games and most recently suffered a crushing 2:5 against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. The prestigious derby against the youngsters of TSV 1860 Munich takes place on Sunday.
In Group A of the Youth League, despite the win against United, FC Bayern has to leave the place at the top to FC Copenhagen’s youngsters for the time being. The Danes won 5-1 at Galatasaray Istanbul. Emil Höjlund, whose brother Rasmus moved to Manchester United for 75 million euros in the summer, scored one goal.
In the evening, Rasmus Höjlund and the Red Devils will meet the FC Bayern professionals. The youngster is even in the starting lineup.
