Dream of Henk Veerman finally come true: Volendammer to FC Utrecht

This winter transfer period, the second Veerman will run away from sc Heerenveen. Following Joey Veerman, who left for PSV, Henk Veerman is moving to FC Utrecht. The 30-year-old Volendammer signs for two and a half years in the Dom city.

It is now Utrecht’s fourth attempt to reach the tree-long striker. And with success. Previous attempts failed for several reasons. In 2018, Utrecht was close, but could not meet the requested transfer fee, after which he left for Sankt Pauli in Germany.

With the transfer of Veerman, a long-cherished wish comes true. It was his dream to wear the Utrecht shirt one day. That was a tribute to his best friend Jan Schilder, with whom he played together in the youth of FC Volendam. Schilder was a big fan of FC Utrecht, but committed suicide when he realized that he would not make it to professional football.

Dream

“He always had an opinion, also on the football field. That clashed with trainers and so his dream to become a professional fell apart,” Veerman said in an interview with the Noordhollands Dagblad in 2013. “He was worried about that. I talked about that with his father Kees. He said: ‘It was in his head that Jan could no longer become a professional. Then I said: ‘Nonsense, even I can do that. save it, so he could do it too’. But I played with the Sunday amateurs and he said: ‘You’ll never make it.’ Then I promised Kees to make a serious attempt.”

Veerman previously played for FC Volendam, sc Heerenveen (twice) and the German Sankt Pauli.
