Draw before the winter break: Holstein Kiel and Hannover 96 share the points

Status: 11/11/2022 8:24 p.m

Holstein Kiel and Hannover 96 played 1-1 (1-1) in the 2nd Bundesliga on Friday evening. The Lower Saxony thus missed the opportunity to work their way up to the promotion places. Kiel wintered as eighth.

Both teams didn’t bother with tactical skirmishes, instead switching directly to the forward gear. 96 made a slightly better impression in the early minutes, but the hosts took the lead. After a great ball relay, Fin Bartels got up and headed the ball in from eight yards like a classic center forward (9′). A goal that the 35-year-old has seldom scored in his career.

But the people of Kiel could not be happy about the lead for long. The ball landed somewhat happily with Cedric Teuchert, who turned quickly and completed the ball with a drop kick from close range (16′).

The game flattens out after a good start

In any case, there were some very respectable offensive actions to be seen in the initial phase. 96 was a bit better in positional play, the “Storks” remained dangerous in fast counterattacks. Kwasi Okyere Wriedt just missed taking the lead again five minutes after the equaliser.

Then the pace slowed down, the next excitement came shortly after the change of sides. Fabian Reese hit 96 keeper Ron-Robert Zieler with a shot full of five yards in the face. The 2014 world champion was able to continue playing (47th).

Chances in the second half were scarce

Offensive actions were seen less and less from Hanover. The action of the game increasingly shifted towards the goal of the guests. A header from Hendrik Weydandt (74′), which went just over the bar, was Lower Saxony’s best chance in the second half until the final phase.

However, the KSV Holstein had nothing more to offer. The numerous flanks did not create any danger, nor did the Schleswig-Holsteiners playfully put Hannover under pressure.

96 coach Leitl sees yellow-red

And Kiel’s keeper Tim Schreiber almost gave Hannover the winning goal: After his big mistake, Havard Nielsen shot the goal with his heel, Patrick Erras prevented the 1:2 (88th).

The game ended with a yellow-red card for 96 coach Stefan Leitl, who loudly complained about a decision by referee Arne Aarnink. He will therefore not sit on the bench in the second half of the season against 1. FC Kaiserslautern (January 28).
