Dramatic first half yields Telstar home defeat

After half an hour it was actually played tonight at Telstar – De Graafschap. The visitors from Doetinchem were already leading 3-0 at the time. That was also the case after ninety minutes in Velsen-Zuid, partly due to a missed penalty.

The first half was disastrous for the White Lions. One of the reasons was the fact that Telstar prefers twelve players missed for medical reasons. De Graafschap made short work of Andries Jonker’s b-squad, scoring three times.

Opoku and Hendriks fell Telstar

Jonathan Opoku opened the score in the fifth minute by scoring with a volley from a corner. Ex-Ajacied Sam Hendriks then got it on his hips. First he headed in after a bad header by Siebe Vandermeulen and a little later he cleared himself and then shot in: 0-3.

De Graafschap even had the perfect opportunity for the fourth goal after 34 minutes, but Telstar keeper Abdel El Ouazzane stopped a penalty from Opoku. A foul by defender Jip Molenaar led to the penalty.

No goal honour

After the break Telstar tried to get closer, but De Graafschap was simply a size too big. Despite some opportunities on both sides, no more goals were scored. The team of trainer Andries Jonker remains in thirteenth place with 27 points from 25 matches.

Telstar setup: El Ouazzane; Zakir, Molenaar (Gemert/48), Aktas, Vandermeulen, Fernandes; Van Doorm, Giovanni, Vlijter; Plet, Smith (Akoy/63)
