Drama series Judas causes irritation: ‘Make-up is really exaggerated’

William Rutten, top photographer and expert in Shownieuws, strongly criticizes the drama series Judas from RTL’s Videoland. He thinks the make-up artists have done a really sad job.

The drama series Judas tells the story of top criminal Willem Holleeder. He is played by actor Gijs Naber, who has to go through the car wash every day. However, the make-up artists who take care of him get a big unsatisfactory from top photographer William Rutten. And that criticism is not new.

TV Canteen

TV expert Bart Ettekoven notes in Shownieuws that Judas’ makeup has been criticized for some time. “In that first season, I can still remember, there was a lot of criticism of Gijs’ nose. People thought it was a bit like the TV Canteen.”

Colleague Tooske Ragas agreeing: “A little too much.”

Bart: “People really had to get used to it, while… I went to have a look and once you’re in it, you don’t see it anymore, but that’s often the case with these kinds of things. You have to get used to it first.”

The Crown

At a certain point you get used to it, Bart explains. “We all know what Willem Holleeder looks like and when suddenly someone else plays him… That’s just like with The Crown. At one point Queen Elizabeth is just standing there.”

So William disagrees. “I have to be honest: I turned it off after three episodes last season, because I was so annoyed by the makeup.”

bad makeup

William thinks the makeup in Judas is just really bad. “He played it well, but that make-up is so… Willem didn’t have such a big nose. I have often seen Willem in real life and he does not have such a nose and not so much all this (points to cheeks, ed.).”

He concludes: “That will irritate you, but perhaps the ordinary viewer does not have that. I thought it was indeed a bit of TV Canteen. It’s not about his acting, that’s beyond dispute, I just think the makeup is just bad.”
