The rumors surrounding Drake’s arrest, which have been circulating on social media via the hashtag #FreeDrake, have all been based on speculation – now it’s official: the rapper has been arrested by the Swedish police.
Fans have sometimes speculated that Drake was arrested by local police at a Stockholm nightclub. Just days ago, the Canadian rapper’s team denied rumors of his arrest to The Hollywood Reporter. His team explained that the Grammy winner was at his hotel in the Swedish capital and had not been arrested. Drake’s Instagram profile is seen landing at Arlanda Airport in Sweden on July 13. According to media reports, he was in the Östermalm district of Stockholm and went to the Ciccio’s restaurant.
Now Drake clarifies himself. In a series of Instagram photos that Drake shared with his community on July 17, one thing in particular stands out: a letter from the Swedish police to confirm that Drake was indeed arrested. It is an “information sheet for those who are suspected of a crime and subsequently arrested”. The letter is on the third page of this so-called “Carousel Post”. The letter, issued by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Swedish Police Authority, states, among other things, the rights of the arrested person. It is also indicated that the detainees will be “interrogated” “as soon as possible”.
The specific reason for Drake’s arrest is still unclear – nothing tangible can be seen in the letter. It is also now suspected that the rapper should be sent to Swedish captivity for possession of marijuana. So far it can be assumed that Drake is still at large. His last Instagram post was uploaded on July 18th and shows him in Ibiza.
