You are one of the most successful pop stars of our time. Her songs regularly break streaming records. On social media, every snap of their fingers causes a stir around the world. And then Canadian R’n’B pain man Drake and “Shake It Off” icon Taylor Swift are also longtime “buddies.”
So it’s no wonder that a recently published series of images on Drake’s Instagram account is being interpreted under high pressure. One photo shows a not-so-fresh snap from 2013 showing Drake/Swift hugging.
Date or musical cooperation?
Not only old dating rumors are promptly traded, but also hints of an imminent collaboration are interpreted. Is it the hidden message of Swift’s upcoming re-release of her ‘1989’ album? The two have been close friends for a long time, but have never recorded a song together.
On his @champagnepapi account, Drake posted four more pictures and cryptically notes. “They seem too soft to convey the meaning of hard work.”
Within four hours, the post garnered over 1.4 million likes and a slew of comments from celebrities. Nicki Minaj, for example, put it succinctly: “The king of everything.”
Playing with the number 5
On channels like Instagram, Reddit and Twitter, Swifts fans were busy trying to decipher the meaning behind the pictures. The spectrum has ranged from morally supporting Drake over allegations that Taylor Swift “let” write most of her songs, to collaborating on the “Taylor’s Version” revamp expected in May. Maybe it’s the upcoming pre-single…
The furthest went with a Reddit user with the nice nickname “greenbrainsauce”, who has his conspiracy revolving around the number 5. “Five pictures were posted. The name Drake has five letters. 1989 is their fifth album. 1989 Taylor’s Version will be released in May, which is the fifth month of the year. And now I’m ready for the clown mask and aluminum hat!”
