THREE AND A HALF STARS
This movie it’s a rarity: in an effort to squeeze as much as possible out of intellectual properties (or arch-contras super-recognized names and brands), a film appears that narrates only one of the chapters of the novel draculaof Bram Stoker: the ship voyage that takes the vampire from continental Europe to London.
In the novel, it is a series of journal entries. Here is everything, and it’s actually the old story of the monster in a closed place with no way out (alien It is the same, but instead of being in the sea, it is in space). Works? Yes, although one knows – if you know the myth and who doesn’t, given that Dracula is one of the five most present characters in the history of cinema? – that everything will end badly (well, there is some originality even in that ).
But the ominousness, the 19th century atmosphere, the light and the use of space make the film is effective without ever falling into the unleashed gore. And also, finally, a really scary vampireafter so much romantic and charming gentleman.
