Dozens of rabbits found neglected in Annen

About a hundred rabbits were discovered in Annen yesterday, which were housed in appalling conditions. The animals were kept in cages that were too small, had no water available and were fed once a day. Their living space was also littered with feces.

The owner of the rabbits gets five days to improve the situation. If this does not happen, measures will be taken, Police Milieu en Dieren Noord-Drenthe reports on Twitter.

According to a vet who was called in, the rabbits themselves are not really bad. Retaining the animals elsewhere was therefore out of the question, the police emphasized. “Government coercion has been applied to ‘enforce’ recovery. If that succeeds, it is good for humans and animals.”
