Dozens of neglected animals seized at Overijssel company | animals

On Monday afternoon, the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) seized dozens of animals from a company in the province of Overijssel. A case has been registered against the owner.

It concerns two horses, four dogs, six goats, thirty rabbits and 25 chickens and pigeons, the NVWA reports. Many animals are skinny, have skin and coat problems and insufficient water and feed at their disposal.

Criminal proceedings are already underway against the owner. The company is not allowed to keep animals commercially because of a previous conviction.

An NVWA vet concluded that the animals were poorly cared for. They are taken care of elsewhere.

A spokesperson for NVWA cannot tell NU.nl exactly how often the authority seizes so many animals at the same time. “Fortunately it doesn’t happen every week, but every case is one too many.”
