A fire broke out in an apartment building on Loevesteinlaan in the Morgenstond district of The Hague in the night from Wednesday to Thursday. Dozens of homes had to be evacuated as a result. The resident of the home where the fire broke out was taken to hospital for smoke inhalation and minor burns.
The Haaglanden fire brigade received a report at 00.15 hours of a fire in a house on the eighth floor. Because the spreading fire was difficult to reach from the street, the fire service called in additional personnel and vehicles. At around 2 a.m., the fire service announced that the fire had been extinguished.
The evacuated homes were on the seventh, eighth and ninth floors of the apartment building. The residents have been received in a bus of the transport company HTM, they can re-enter their homes as soon as they are declared free of carbon monoxide by the fire brigade. The residents of the fire address cannot return and are temporarily housed elsewhere.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
