Dozens of flights delayed or canceled due to limited occupancy at Brussels Airport | Interior

At Zaventem airport, air traffic control is currently working with a limited staffing. Brussels Airport reports this. Dozens of flights have been canceled or are delayed.

Tamara Severi from Hove near Antwerp would normally leave for Marseille at 21:10 on a Brussels Airlines flight. There she will spend the Ascension weekend with family and friends.

“Our flight has now been postponed to 10.25 pm,” she tells our editors from the gate. “Normally we could still leave tonight. The atmosphere here is calm.”

Car

The delay does cause some problems for Severi. “We rent a car in France, but will not arrive there until 0.30 am tonight at the earliest. The rental office closes at midnight. We’re going to have to see how we’re going to solve that exactly. It is a bit of a hassle.”

A flight to Berlin and Hamburg, among others, has been cancelled. According to Severi, many flights to Italy were also canceled. This can be seen on the information boards in the terminal.

Skeyes

Belgian air traffic control Skeyes confirms that there are delays. Tonight only one runway was temporarily available due to works. In addition, several air traffic controllers are currently absent due to illness, which means that Skeyes suffers from a low occupancy rate.

The problem would only arise today. Everything should go back to normal from tomorrow.
