The Stichting Strandexploitatie Veere daily collects the carcasses from the Walcheren beaches and the water board does that with the dead birds outside the beaches. The municipalities of Veere and Vlissingen are also helping.
Veere urges beachgoers to avoid all contact with dead or sick birds and to keep their dogs on a lead. Swimming in the sea is safe as long as there is no contact with the dead or sick birds, the municipality reports on its website. Anyone who finds dead birds can report this to the lifeguards, among others.
