The unions UGT, CC.OO. and USO have called two days of strike in douglas for March 14 and 18, after the multinational announced the dismissal of 1,000 employees, the closure of 136 stores and the worsening of the working conditions of current workers.

Specifically, union representatives have described “cruel” decision the dismissal of the thousand employees, and the modification of working conditions, worsening them in the case of the 600 workers who are still in the firm, according to these organizations in a statement.

In this way, they have summoned two stops, the first for March 14 for warehouse workers and the other for March 18 for office and store staff.

Before these dates, legally there will be two pre-mediation meetingsone at the Madrid Labor Institute (for warehouse staff) and another at SIMA (for store and office staff).

The unions trust that in these mediation spaces the company “realize, reflect and withdraw” these measuressince they consider them “unfair, disproportionate” and only show their lack of management for years and their little negotiating intention.

Douglas announced last February his intention to close 136 stores in Spain, almost 70% of the total, with a maximum impact of 1,000 jobs, due to the fact that, despite the transformation strategy, reflected in the group’s record financial results, the Spanish business was still “not profitable”, since it has not recovered to the same extent as the company’s other markets and “prospects remain bleak.”
