Dough scraper for 153 euros! Pensioner despairs of shopping TV

When pensioner Gisela Meier (74) opened a payment reminder from the shopping channel 1-2-3.tv, her blood pressure rose. Then she fell and had to go to the hospital.

648.23 euros – was on the bill. Including 130 euros for a pan protector, 160 euros for a cozy blanket, 153 euros for a spatula. “But it wasn’t that expensive when it was offered on TV,” she says.

What has happened there?

In mid-December, she sat with a friend over coffee and watched the shopping channel. Gisela Meier can’t leave the house, has care level 2: “There were such cheap offers, all under ten euros. So I ordered. Christmas presents for my friends – and a few for me too.” With the app on her phone, it was easy.

Grandma Gisela was happy about the many packages. But then came the reminder in mid-January. “The sum was a shock,” says the pensioner, “I would never have bought such expensive things.”

BZ asks 1-2-3.tv. In total, she ordered 58 products on account. Marketing boss Christian Dallmayer admits that the dunning overview is “somewhat unfortunate”. The “Description” field only contains the description of an article from the order. Dallmayer: “Unfortunately, it is not clear here that it is not just about one item, but about orders with several items.”

Grandma Gisela apparently failed on the shopping TV. Because she is certain: “I only ordered and received a spatula, a set of pans and a blanket.”

Now she wants to return everything she hasn’t given away yet. The order app deleted them.

How can you protect yourself?

► If you order something via an app or online, check the quantity information in the summary and the shipping costs before completing the order process.

► Keep the original invoices.

► Compare the contents of the delivery with the attached invoice.

► If there are any discrepancies, you should complain immediately.

► Pay attention to any return deadlines. A purchase through a teleshopping channel is a distance contract. As a consumer, you have a 14-day right of withdrawal.

► If you want to return the goods, you only bear the costs of the return if you were informed of this before the contract was concluded.
