Doubling salary: Julián Álvarez extends at Man City

Julián Álvarez remains a “citizen” in the long term. The attacker’s contract, which ran until June 2027 anyway, was prematurely extended by one year. “Everything has already been signed and will be announced by the club soon,” agent Fernando Hidalgo confirmed to the journalist Cesar Luis Merlo. Along with his signature on the new working paper, there should be a significant salary increase at Manchester City.

The 23-year-old Álvarez was transferred from River Plate to the Skyblues in January 2022 for 21.4 million euros from his native Argentina, but only came to the Premier League six months later after being loaned directly to his training club. According to reports, Álvarez will receive around £100,000 a week (around EUR 113,000), twice his previous salary. The offensive man has scored ten goals and assists in 33 appearances for Man City.

Only Kalvin Phillips (27) and Máximo Perrone (20) have been tied to the English top club for as long as Álvarez, followed by seven professionals with a contract term until 2027, including Erling Haaland (22) and Phil Foden (22).
