Doubles: First start, first podium – second place for Eitberger/Schirmer

As of: December 8th, 2023 6:09 p.m

Successful start to the season for the doubles team with Dajana Eitberger/Saskia Schirmer. The duo Tobias Wendl/Tobias Arlt, however, missed the podium.

After a four-year break, the international luge elite are returning to the Lake Placid ice track. On Friday, the German tobogganers relied on experience and fast runners on the difficult track in the US state of New York.

Dajana Eitberger (Ilmenau) and Saskia Schirmer (Berchtesgaden) had put themselves in a strong starting position with second place in the first run. Eitberger also impressed with her new doubles partner in the final run and made the podium perfect. Only the Austrian duo Selina Egle and Lara Kipp were faster in the ice channel.

The world champions Jessica Degenhardt (Altenberg) and Cheyenne Rosenthal (Winterberg) attacked in the second run, but slipped from fourth to fifth place in the final rankings.

Wendl/Arlt only fifth at the start

In the first competition of the season, the strongest German double-seater didn’t make it onto the podium. Tobias Wendl (Berchtesgaden) / Tobias Arlt (Königssee) came “only” fifth when the Americans Zachary Di Gregorio / Sean Hollander won.

At least it was enough for the duo Hannes Orlamünder/Paul Gubitz (both Zella-Mehlis) to make it into the top ten. Max Ewald (Suhl) /Jakob Jannusch (Sonneberg/Schalkau) came eleventh.
