The show jumpers Philipp Weishaupt and Christian Kukuk ensured a German double success in the opening event of the Champions Tour.
Riding Just Be Gentle, Weishaupt won the Doha Grand Prix in the desert emirate of Qatar ahead of his stable mate Kukuk from Riesenbecker on Nice van’t Zorgvliet. Third place went to Frenchman Simon Delestre with Dexter.
Weishaupt achieved the fastest clear round in the jump-off in 34.37 seconds. Kukuk and Delestre followed with a gap of just five and nine hundredths of a second respectively. A total of twelve couples had qualified for the jump-off of the 375,000 euro prize-giving event. Among them was Hans-Dieter Dreher (Eimeldingen), who took seventh place with Elysium.
The next competition of the Champions Tour will take place in Miami Beach in the USA in mid-April. The only German station from July 21 to 23 is Riesenbeck in Westphalia. In contrast to previous years, Hamburg and Berlin are no longer on the tournament calendar.
