The zoo is now doubly keen!

Good news for the Siberian ibex: the proud mother gave birth to two young on May 14th – a female and a male.

The little fawns have thick fur, which has protected them optimally from the cold of the last few weeks. Now they are paddling in pairs over the imposing rocks near the Löwentor.

Siberian ibex are the kings of ibex. Both males and females have horns.

By the way, the name is misleading. The name “Central Asian Ibex” would be more appropriate, because it inhabits all high mountains of Central Asia – Altai, Himalayas, Hindu Kush, Karakorum, Pamir and Tienshan up to heights of 6700 meters.
