DOS’46 defends itself bravely but loses well to leader Fortuna

KORFBAL – For more than twenty minutes, DOS’46 from Nijeveen competed well against the unbeaten leader Fortuna, but after that the difference in quality came to the fore. DOS lost in Delft 26-15. “It was to be expected, but you never get used to losing,” said trainer Herman van Gunst.

DOS had to do without captain Max Malestein and Tessa Lap, who had fallen due to illness. Despite the absence of the basic players, DOS showed that it could keep up with the leader of the Korfbal League in the first half. Both teams scored point after point in the opening phase, but the devil was in the tail for DOS. With a score of 10-9, Fortuna ran out to a margin of four, which meant that DOS went into the break with a 13-9 deficit.

Quality difference exposed by Fortuna

Immediately after the break, Fortuna further distanced itself from DOS by increasing the margin to eight: 17-9. With that standings, DOS knew that a stunt was no longer possible. Van Gunst’s team defended itself bravely, fought for every ball, but saw Fortuna walk out little by little. On top of the large deficit, Christian Dekkers dropped out with an ankle injury. In the end, Mick Snel determined the final score at 26-15.

With the win, Fortuna has qualified for the play-offs for the championship after two matches in the championship group. DOS is still fighting for a ticket for the play-offs and will face LDODK at home next week.
