DOS’46/VDK Group did not have the ingenuity or form to beat the visiting LDODK at home on Friday evening: 22-24.
DOS’46 wanted to keep the points at home again in a sold-out De Eendracht sports hall in Nijeveen against the rival from Gorredijk in Friesland, but it was actually clear from the first attack that the visitors had the better team. LDODK’s first attacks did not result in a goal, but they did produce good chances, while DOS’46 botched several attacks in the first minutes before a shot was fired.
Eight hits difference
Despite this, DOS’46 did take a 1-0 lead, but then it was LDODK that clearly took control and significantly expanded the lead. At 5-13 an early anticlimax threatened and the home crowd watched with dismay that the Drenthe could not catch up.
It is fortunate for DOS’46 that the ambitious LDODK is still not a star in clinically completing a match. The Frisian team won the first six games of the Korfball League season, but left the field as losers in the last two matches (against KZ and PKC).
Strong substitute Sam Meijer
Also in Nijeveen, LDODK regularly showed its class, putting DOS’46 on the rack a few times, but also forgot to push through. The home club therefore kept hope, especially when substitute Sam Meijer provided belief again with a few cool goals with a score of 20-22.
Standout Erwin Zwart (seven goals in total) then gave the guests some breathing space just in time, finishing very calmly, and that turned out to be decisive. DOS’46 no longer seemed to have a plan to join in again, after which LDODK eventually won the points without any problems, although the final score suggested otherwise.
Eline van Veldhuisen was one of the few bright spots at DOS’46. “It’s great that we come back, after such a big difference before half time. We stay calm, that was good, but it wasn’t good enough. This does provide some learning points towards the second part of the season.”
