Steffen Tigges is still waiting for the big breakthrough in BVB’s Bundesliga squad. Although he scored his first two professional goals for Borussia Dortmund in the first half of the season, the center forward is still awaiting his debut in the league under head coach Marco Rose. After all: In the BVB U23, the top scorer recently gained new self-confidence.
On Friday evening, Tigges played for BVB II in the 3rd division for the fourth time this season and for the first time since August and scored for his colors to make it 1-0 (final score 1-1).
“Steffen was back after a long time and should get match practice. He worked himself up as usual, I’m happy for him that he scored,” summarized BVB II coach Enrico Maaßen in an interview with the “Ruhr news” quite happy together.
Maassen emphasized the strong progress made by the 23-year-old striker, although the great successes in the professional squad as a backup for superstar Erling Haaland are still a long way off.
“Tiggi has developed in all areas during his time with the professionals. He trains regularly at the highest level and gets his playing times,” said the coach of the Westphalian second team about the 1.93 m giant.
Tigges tied to BVB until 2024
Tigges himself recently emphasized to “MagentaSport” that he always gives 100 percent, no matter which team he is on.
Nevertheless, it is also associated with difficulties, often commuting between Bundesliga and third division squads. “It’s not always easy for me if I don’t know where I’m going to play before the weekend. But ultimately I don’t care,” said Tigges, who has played in 13 Bundesliga games in his career so far.
In the recent past, Tigges has been regularly associated with other professional clubs, including 1. FC Köln and VfL Bochum as a transfer candidate. So far, however, there has been no farewell from Dortmund, as Tigges is contractually bound to BVB until 2024.
