Dortmund will probably not renew with Marco Reus – after twelve years

Marco Reus is an institution at Borussia Dortmund. But after twelve years together, the club and player will probably part ways.

Last April, Marco Reus extended his contract with Borussia Dortmund for another year until the summer of 2024. But whether the 34-year-old will sign a new working paper with BVB remains to be seen.

As the pay TV broadcaster Sky reports, the club’s current trend is not to continue with Reus. The veteran would therefore not receive a contract for the new season.

But: Nothing has been decided yet. According to the report, there will be talks between the Reus side and BVB between the end of April and the beginning of May. Only after the end of the season does the club want to finally decide whether it wants to continue with the offensive player.

Reus wants to continue playing: Türkiye and the USA as options

According to Sky, it is also clear that Reus will not end his career after this season. He wants to continue playing, whether in Dortmund or at another club. There certainly seems to be interest, especially internationally. It is said that Turkish and US clubs in particular are keeping an eye on Reus.

The former captain of the reigning runner-up played for BVB in his youth and was even born in Dortmund. In the professional sector, he initially played for Rot Weiss Ahlen before moving to Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2009. There Reus also became a German national player. In 2012 he moved back home. Since then, Reus has appeared in 415 competitive games for BVB, scoring 167 goals and setting up a further 128 goals. His greatest successes: With Dortmund he won the DFB Cup in 2017 and 2021.
