This summer, Borussia Dortmund lured a highly gifted talent from English top club Manchester City for free. Jayden Braaf now feels at the perfect address at BVB.
“I think it’s just the right club for young players. So it wasn’t really a difficult choice to choose Dortmund. Simply because I saw that they like to work with young players here and push them,” reasoned the 19-year-old made his move in an interview with the “Ruhr Nachrichten”.
The Dutchman is currently recovering from a serious knee injury. In preparation for the new season, he therefore wants to remain patient. “I want to show myself and then my chance will come. But first I have to get fit,” Braaf continued.
In any case, the youngster is not immediately scheduled for the first team. First of all, he should familiarize himself with football in Germany in the U23s, according to the plan.
However, the junior national player makes no secret of the fact that he sees himself at a higher level in the medium term. “If things go really well, I would of course like to show what I’m capable of in the Bundesliga,” said Braaf. However, he also emphasized that he was not in the physical condition to do so at this point in time.
Braaf is compared to BVB icon Jadon Sancho
The left winger turned his back on Manchester City in the summer and moved to Dortmund on a free transfer due to the lack of prospects. Under Pep Guardiola he had been denied a chance in the first team. There was speculation on the island that his difficult nature was also a reason.
However, the new Borussia player vehemently defends himself against these assumptions: “The people who claim that don’t really know me. Anyone who gets to know me personally will find that I’m a quiet guy, that I joke, laugh a lot and now really not a difficult character,” he clarified.
Undisputed is his immense talent, which secured him the attention of the BVB scouts. Due to the similar career, there are even more references to Jadon Sancho, who also came to Dortmund from Man City as a young offensive player.
“The comparison is first and foremost a privilege,” emphasized Braaf. “When people say: You play a bit like Sancho, then of course that’s nice to hear. But at the end of the day I’m Jayden Braaf,” he interjected.
