Borussia Dortmund kept up with the top of the Bundesliga with a win at Hertha BSC, Hertha remains in the relegation zone without a win.
BVB won 1-0 (1-0) in Berlin with a goal from Anthony Modeste and has now moved up to fifth place with nine points. Hertha are without a win and just one point ahead of bottom of the table, VfL Bochum.
“I’m happy about my first goal. It took time but it was very important”said Modeste on Sky and said, looking at Edin Terzic: “I got so much on the cover, but the coach was always there for me.”
Dortmund takes the lead with superiority
Dortmund was clearly the superior team from the start and had numerous good chances. Marco Reus hit the crossbar in the 15th minute when he shot from the edge of the box. Salih Özcan’s side kick landed a little later on the post of the Berlin goal (20th). Anthony Modeste missed a big chance by goalkeeper Oliver Christensen (22nd) and missed another one (25th).
But then BVB took the lead: Özcan crossed from the right, Modeste headed in from seven meters (32′).
BVB misses further chances, Hertha does not use it
Dortmund largely had Hertha under control even after the break. Adeyemi missed the next big chance in the 58th minute – first Christensen saved, then Adeyemi shot over the goal.
Stevan Jovetić had one of the few chances to equalize: he shot a shot from the right from 15 meters out, but BVB goalkeeper Gregor Kobel made a save (70′). Dortmund then continued to ensure that the lead was only 1-0, with Bellingham (73′) and Reus (74′) missing further great chances.
In the end, the fact that BVB won was also due to Hertha. Marco Richter could have punished Dortmund’s poor conversion of chances, but he also failed because of Kobel, who steered the ball against the top of the crossbar (79′).
