In a few weeks, Dorothea Wierer will end her biathlon career. It is not yet clear what will happen next for the Italian. However, the 35-year-old already has a clear plan. In her private life this is very specific, but in her professional life she leaves a back door open.

On February 21, 2026, the final curtain of her active biathlon career will fall for Dorothea Wierer in the Olympic mass start. After that, the Italian will retire and at least hang up her skis and her rifle. The 35-year-old has already largely planned the start of her “new life”.

“It will be a less stressful life. I will take things as they come,” said Wierer in an interview with the Italian newspaper La Repubblica. Family life will be at the top of their agenda after February 21st.

“I want to enjoy the time with my family and become a mother. Biathlon requires a lot of effort. It involves almost 1,000 hours of training a year between the gym, on roller skis, at the shooting range, skiing, cycling and hiking,” she listed.

After your biathlon career into the entertainment industry?

When she started her biathlon career, she never expected to take part in the Olympic Games at the age of almost 36. “But now I realize that I am still physically and mentally fit and can perform at the highest level,” said Wierer, who has had a fantastic start to the World Cup season and is one of the best biathletes in the world this winter.

It is not yet entirely clear what career path Wierer will take after her sporting career ends. Here, however, she already has an idea: the entertainment industry.

“This is certainly an environment that has some attractive aspects for me,” explained the Italian, who got a taste of the TV business in 2024 and was an expert for “Eurosport” at the Summer Olympics. According to Wierer, she can imagine returning: “Maybe you’ll see me in a similar role again in the future,” she said.
