Dormant funds in Belgium have risen to 687 million euros, check here whether you too have forgotten money | Bank & Insurance

The amount of money lying dormant in Belgium has now risen to 686.9 million euros. This is evident from data from the Federal Public Service Finance.

Dormant funds are bank accounts, insurance contracts or safes that have not been used for a certain period of time and where there has been no further contact with the financial institution. This concerns, for example, accounts that grandparents opened for their grandchildren, but about which they never informed them.

Such funds go to the Deposit and Consignment Fund of the FPS Finance, pending their claim by the rightful owners. They have 30 years to do this, otherwise the assets will end up in the state treasury.

14 million euros reclaimed

At the beginning of last year, there were still approximately 622 million euros in dormant assets. In the meantime, 2,528 people claimed their dormant funds, amounting to 13.8 million euros.
