Doortje’s (92) biggest wish comes true thanks to the children in her village

Although the children in Heeswijk-Dinther are on holiday, six girls from the village are still hard at work. The classmates from groups 5 and 6 of primary school Palet make wishes of residents come true. On Wednesday, 92-year-old Doortje was the first to act and she was quite impressed: “This exceeds all my expectations!”

Doortje had sometimes taken a boat trip in the Amsterdam canals, but she had never sailed here in her own village. And that’s strange, because that’s her big wish: to go with the whisper boat in her own neighborhood.

So she wrote that wish on a note and put it in the new wish box in the library in her village. That box is an idea of some girls in the village. They want to fulfill as many wishes as possible.

“This exceeds all expectations.”

The 92-year-old Doortje is the very first lucky one. That is why they will perform together on the river Aa on Wednesday. There was also a guide on the boat. He could explain everything about the environment and nature.

Doortje thoroughly enjoyed the trip. “I loved it,” she says afterwards with a big smile on her face. “Very cozy. This exceeds all my expectations.”

“The kids all deserve an ice cream.”

The trip is also a special moment for the children. Since the wish box has been in the library, the girls have already received a lot of wishes. And the first wish they carried out is an immediate success.

“We will never forget that we can do this,” says one of the children. “For us this is really like: ‘Wow!'” And Doortje will not soon forget this moment. “So the kids all deserve an ice cream, I think so,” she laughs.
