Saturday’s time trial was full of surprises.
The first part driven on hard tires saw last year’s pole position man of George Russell as fate.
In the second section, the road stood up for Ferrari For Carlos Sainz.
But the biggest sensation was the ride in the Alfa Romeo team. Chinese Zhou Guanyu occupied no less than the fifth starting grid, and team mate Valtteri Bottas completed the success with his seventh place in the time trial.
– Our performance was a positive surprise. There was speed with every tire compound. It just depended on how good the lap was, Bottas began in an interview with Viaplay.
– As a team, you have to be satisfied with today.
Bottas ended up behind his teammate, but on a day like this it didn’t hurt either.
– Of course we accept such a result. The teammate drove a really good lap. Unfortunately, the last round was not quite perfect for me.
Bottas believes the warm weather may have helped Alfa Romeo get the tires working. In Sunday’s race, the team goes hunting for a big point catch.
– We are in a situation where both cars have to take points tomorrow. Don’t waste this result. Now there are good settings.
– The start is important. We have to attack and not lose a single place, Bottas said for Sunday.
