Don’t panic about the Kansas City Chiefs

After the surprising defeat against the Green Bay Packers, the Kansas City Chiefs will face the Buffalo Bills on Sunday (10:25 p.m. live on RTL and on RTL+). Head coach Andy Reid calls for calm in a “crazy” NFL.

The Kansas City Chiefs lead the AFC West with a record of eight wins and four losses. However, the reigning Super Bowl champion does not yet radiate great dominance.

Above all, the offense around superstar Patrick Mahomes is still looking for the necessary consistency. Productivity has declined this year. While the Chiefs scored an average of 29.2 points per game in the previous season (best in the NFL), so far in 2023 they have only scored 22.9 (11th place).

Head coach Andy Reid still sees no reason to panic. “This league is crazy at the moment,” said the 65-year-old ahead of the upcoming duel with the Buffalo Bills. It’s about thinking “week by week,” said Reid.

In this context, the head coach reminded that other teams in the NFL also experience ups and downs. “A few weeks ago I mentioned that San Francisco – when we were in Germany – lost three games in a row and now they are playing well. Denver, same thing, they are playing well,” said Reid about the competition.

NFL: Parallel to the 2019 season?

The Chiefs, on the other hand, have lost two of their last three games in the NFL – most recently surprisingly 19:27 against the Green Bay Packers.

Mahomes also remains calm and drew a comparison to the 2019 season. “I was on a team that was 6-4 and ended up winning the Super Bowl,” the quarterback noted.

Kansas City will face the Buffalo Bills, New England Patriots, Las Vegas Raiders, Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Chargers in the regular season. The Miami Dolphins (9-3) are currently the top seed in the AFC.
