The course took place in the specially equipped practice room at SOS Reptiel in Ichtegem. A victim lay unconscious. That was the scenario for the exercise. The paramedic apparently found him with a boa constrictor on his body. It was the fire brigade who had to solve it.
“We approach every intervention as if it were a poisonous animal. Two people each time…As we are used to. You also exchange ideas with each other.”
The fire brigade of East and West Flanders came to practice difficult scenarios with an experienced reptile expert.
“The purpose of the training is that they learn not to be lax and to shrug off certain risks, because some reptiles can be very dangerous,” says Mario Goes of SOS Reptiel in Ichtegem.
