Due to a bad start to the competition, the after-effects of the corona period and inflation, the Donar basketball club has run into financial problems.
The club shares this in a message. From a sporting point of view, the club reached a final place in the league and a place in the semi-final for the cup, but no prize was won.
The bad competition start, the financial blow of the corona period and inflation have caused a ‘significant hole in the budget’. That is why Donar had to talk to creditors about overdue payments.
Treasurer Ronald Arkema has resigned due to personal circumstances.
What consequences this has for the sporting branch of Donar is not known at the moment. The club shares about this: ‘With the Supervisory Board, we look at the financial management. We are also currently mapping out which choices we have to make to keep basketball at the highest level in Groningen in the coming years.’
