Davy Klaassen is disappointed in Ajax’s performance, which dropped two points in the home match against Go Ahead Eagles (1-1). The attacking midfielder does not understand that his team did not perform better.
,,It must be a lot better than this”, the goalscorer sighed after the match to ESPN. ,,If you take the lead here, you can never give it away again. We had enough opportunities to make the second or third, but we didn’t,” said the disappointed midfielder. ,,If you play 1-1 at home against Go Ahead, then you are just ashamed.”
Klaassen noticed that his team was not as dominant as hoped. ,,I think our line-up was wrong, I stated that at halftime. Our wingers had to keep it wide, but Kenneth (Taylor, ed.) and Florian (Grillitsch, ed.) did that instead. When we lost the ball, our midfield was completely open.”
Davy Klaassen has shot himself in a nice list of names. The attacking midfielder opened the score on behalf of Ajax against Go Ahead Eagles on the stroke of half-time and thus entered in the footsteps of some illustrious predecessors.
Coach Alfred Schreuder did not regret his choice to put some permanent base forces on the bench. “I would do it again. We didn’t play a very good game, but the 2-0 was ahead of the 1-1. We didn’t feel like Go Ahead was pushing,” said the coach. ,,We didn’t like each other, it was too static in the front and there was too little creativity.”
Despite this, according to Schreuder, Ajax should have ‘just’ left the field with three points. ,,There was nothing wrong in the back”, said the coach, who was satisfied with Florian Grillitisch’s basic debut. ,,He did well, Taylor was good too. Only offensively we had too little variation.”
Klaassen opened the score on behalf of the home team shortly before the break, but the team from Amsterdam was unable to shake off the visitors definitively. Willum Thor Willumsson gave his team a nice point with the 1-1. As a result, Ajax in any case passes competitor PSV in the ranking, but the lead is in the hands of AZ.
