Berlin (AP) – Formula 1 boss Stefano Domenicali has nurtured hopes of Germany’s return to the racing calendar. The possible entry of Porsche and Audi into the racing series for the 2026 season could be helpful for this.
“Something that could happen soon could be very important to get back on the calendar,” Domenicali said at a conference call with Wall Street stock market analysts, according to Autosport. The environment in Germany is “very interesting” for Formula 1, the Italian assured.
The managing director left open whether Hockenheim or the Nürburgring have better chances of a Grand Prix. “No matter who the organizer is, we have to see what the measures would have to be to get the race back on the calendar,” said the former Ferrari team boss.
Due to the high entry fees, there are currently no guest appearances by the motorsport premier class on German racetracks. A Grand Prix cannot be financed without public subsidies or support from the economy, it was said several times from Hockenheim and the Nürburgring.
Volkswagen boss Herbert Diess had announced at the beginning of the week that he would push for a race in Germany if the group’s subsidiaries Audi and Porsche actually put their Formula 1 plans into action.
