Dome of youth shelters sounds the alarm: many centers threaten to close due to energy bills
Everything is better than keeping it open with a loss, because the reserves are exhausted after the corona crisis. The youth shelters urgently need help.
Investments in making energy efficient are necessary in, among other things, the De Barkentijn building, which is a protected building. The Real Estate Agency must therefore agree and it will often be more expensive than with a normal building. And is there still a budget? “We work with an average profit margin of three percent. Now invoices are coming in that are 30 percent higher, only for gas and electricity. This is untenable for us,” says Nicolas Vermote of De Barkentijn.
